William Seward Lives!

obama-hillaryWith the talk of Hillary Clinton possibly becoming the next Secretary of State, you can’t help but think of Abraham Lincoln’s recently dubbed Team of Rivals. William H. Seward, a Senator from New York, was the frontrunner for his party’s presidential nomination in 1860. Instead, that honor went to a guy who’d only served in Congress for a few years following a stint in the Illinois legislature. After Lincoln was elected President, he named Seward his Secretary of State.

sarah-palinSeward’s notable accomplishment while in the State Department was purchasing Alaska from the Russians. So, fortunately for Sen. Clinton, the bar’s been set pretty low.

UPDATE: Uh oh. Apparently I’ve angered the right-wing liberal by besmirching the good name of Secretary Seward since, among other things, we would have lost the Cold War without Alaska.

reagans-raidersOutrageous! Every good Republican knows that Ronald Reagan burrowed through the center of the Earth until he sprang out in the middle of Moscow and ripped out Gorbachev’s jugular with his bare hands.

My only intention here was to bring up the potential similarities between Seward & Clinton and, just for the hell of it, take a shot at the home of Sarah Palin and Ted Stevens. I said it once and I’ll say it again…Alaska has waaaay more in common with Canada than it does with the lower 48. The Palins want to secede from the US? Let ‘em.

  1. Nice smearing of Seward, Chris.

If you’d actually like to know the real story about Seward, read on: http://rightwingliberal.wordpress.com/2008/11/18/more-ignorance-from-the-lefty-blogosphere/

  2. Thank you for completely ignoring the majority of my post, which centered around Seward’s successes in keeping Britain and France from joining the Civil War on the Rebel side.

Or perhaps it hurt too much to remember yet another war that the Democrats wanted to lose.

  3. That’s why I included the phrase “among other things” when referring to your response, and provided a link to your blog post.

But I don’t blame you for focusing so much on the past. If I were a Republican in the year 2008 I’d be the same way.

  4. “Among other things”?

Please don’t insult my intelligence, Chris.

  5. That’s. Why. I. Linked. To. Your. Post.

When you see words that are blue and underlined….that’s called a link. You can click on it, then it takes you to another website.
