The good news for the Democrats just keeps on coming. And that is the fact that the Sarah Palin debacle hasn’t taught the GOP anything. Despite being a drag on the ticket and driving female voters to Obama/Biden in droves, she’s far and away the most popular figure among Republcans right now.
Newsflash: Voters care about issues. Women will not vote for some because they are a woman. They’ll vote for the candidate who they agree with.
Just as the GOP assumed that women would automatically be drawn to a candidate with ovaries instead of testes in 2008, they thought that African-Americans would flock to a black candidate in 2006. That year Kenneth Blackwell ran for Governor of Ohio, Lynn Swann ran for Governor of Pennsylvania, and Michael Steele ran for Senator in Maryland. All 3 were black Republicans, all 3 ran against white Democrats, all 3 got crushed.
Former MD Lt. Governor Michael Steele, who was asked to speak at the last two Republican National Conventions, is now a major contender for RNC Chairman. Why? Because a guy who won 25% of black voters, 39% of women voters, and 39% of the youth vote against a boring, old, white guy is going to attract young, women, and minority voters to the Republican Party. God already proved to me that he favors Democrats when it was 70 degrees on a November night in Chicago….this just cinches it.
