UPDATE: Hard to believe, but we beat NLS to this story by 2 DAYS.
Here’s Ben’s post.
The Republican National Committee had to have known that Minneapolis/St. Paul – its 2008 convention site – ranks among the gayest metros in the U.S…right?
Apparently, this discovery was late to reach the RPV. From an AP dispatch, posted this morning:

The publisher of a Twin Cities magazine says he was caught by surprise after a group of delegates coming to the Republican National Convention canceled an order of the magazine’s guidebook after seeing it had a six-page section for gays and lesbians.
The campaign for Virginia Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling had ordered 150 guidebooks published by The Rake for the Virginia delegates as gifts. But the order was canceled after a campaign staffer discovered the GLBT section.
Tom Bartel, publisher of The Rake, says the campaign is missing out on a lot of information about Twin Cities attractions.
Bolling’s chief of staff says the decision was made on a “staff level” and that the lieutenant governor would not have had a problem with the guidebook’s content.
Really, folks, you are missing out on all the fun!
- Gay 90s – 408 Hennepin Ave., Minneapolis. We recommend Wednesday and Thursday shows. You must be over 18 to attend. Runs till 2AM. We give Gay 90s three snaps!!!
- The Saloon, 9th & Hennepin Ave., Minneapolis. The Saloon is currently the most popular place to hang out on any given night in the Twin Cities. The two most popular nights are Thursday (18 and over) and Saturday, when the most boys are partying their butts off. This is the Mommie Dearest of all Twin Cities’ gay establishments!
- The Bolt, 513 Washington Ave. S, Minneapolis. Industrial-looking dance club. Open until 3 am Friday and Saturday nights.
- Margarita Bella, 1032 Third Avenue NE, Minneapolis. GLBT Latino/a establishment featuring Wednesday gay night, plus drag shows Thursday.
C’mon you uptight scolds! Snap out of it! Borrow a gown from Rudy and get busy!
