In this country, 86% of House districts aren’t competitive. Think about that. Despite the fact that Congress has approval ratings that make Bush look like Abraham friggin’ Lincoln, the overwhelming majority of these folks will cruise to re-election this November.
The Democratic Leadership Council recently completed a study called, Gerrymandering the Vote. It concludes that Virginia is the 4th worst state in the nation when it comes to non-competitive House races. Yeah! Take THAT Massachusetts, Arkansas, and Nebraska!
Oh, and the United States ranks 139th in the world in overall voter participation. Nice.

That’s probably not a coincidence.

Voters don’t realize that most of the problems we have with government is that our representatives are “planned” through gerrymandered districts. Until we wake up and fix this, we’ve doomed to the “same old, same old”. Speak up and try to educate everyone. We’re trying in Pennsyvlania but it’s bleak, leadership wants to both preserve incumbency and control votes. If you don’t have a record they want, they take your district away. Obviously we in the United States need to learn a bit more about how to run a proper democracy.
